School Closure and E-Mail/Text Alerts | Broadcast Information | Snow Routes | Two-Hour Delay
Because of Mapleton's proximity to both a major river and the Coastal Range, weather can play a factor in determining whether it is safe (or possible) to transport students to school, especially during the winter and early spring months. Additionally, with the many nearby forests, sometimes access to electricity is interrupted. With this in mind, Mapleton School District makes every effort to notify parents and students if school is cancelled or delayed. Parents may choose to receive e-mail/text alerts, check on-line, or listen to local radio/television broadcasts for current information. The Mapleton School District uses an Internet-based system for delivering changes in schedule, such as snow closures, to the media. This year, message delivery is being extended directly to the public through a system called FlashAlert. You are now able to self-register and manage up to five home or office email and/or cell phone text message addresses and receive emergency information just minutes after we post it, at no cost to you. To register, go to FlashAlert.net and in the left frame, select “Subscribe to receive news from participating organization.” Enter your primary email address twice. On the next screen, under “add an Organization,” choose the ‘Willamette Valley region’ then ‘Lane County Schools’, then ‘Mapleton’. Click on “Subscribe.” Below that, you can enter up to four more addresses. When you are finished, click “Update email addresses,“ have text messages sent to verify they will pass through your mail server’s filters. Addresses registered on FlashAlert will remain confidential and will not be released to any person or organization. Once a year, you will receive an email at your primary address asking if you wish to continue your subscription. You may also access this information directly at www.NewsBridge.net/Mapleton. This information is updated every 15 minutes. Many local television and radio stations broadcast emergency and school closure information.
Inclement Weather Routes (Snow Routes)
Bus routes may be altered due to inclement weather. “Snow Routes” are designated as below. DEADWOOD BUS will turn around at the Deadwood Store at 7:30am/4:30pm. Students living past the Deadwood Store will find their own transportation to/from the store. Students who normally ride the Deadwood route down river from the store will be picked up at their usual stops. Stagecoach Road will be picked up from/returned to the Swisshome Post Office at 7:15am/4:30pm. Riverview Avenue students will be picked up at their usual time. INDIAN CREEK/SWEET CREEK BUS will turn around at the Indiola Trailer Park at 7:10am/4:35pm. Students living down river from there will be picked up at their usual stops. Sweet Creek will be at Bernhardt Creek Road at 7:50am/4:10pm. HWY 126 E/TIERNAN AND EAST MAPLETON ROAD: We will not run a bus past Gingerbread Village Restaurant because of bad conditions around the tunnel. The route will be at Gingerbread Village at 7:15am/4:30pm. The rest of the students will be picked up at their usual stops. Bus times can vary as much as 10 minutes with inclement weather so please be patient and have students at their stops early. If we go on a two-hour delay, buses will run two hours behind schedule. Please check to see if buses are on snow routes. revised 6-30-09
