Mapleton Elementary School

Welcome to Mapleton Elementary School

Mapleton Elementary School

The Oregon Department of Education has honored the Mapleton Elementary School as a High Performance Learning Community because of its consistently excellent performance on state assessments. It is one of five high performance learning communities in Oregon.

At Mapleton Elementary, we believe that strong parental support, a well-trained teaching staff, a supportive administration that provides strong leadership as well as adequate funding, and students that believe that they can succeed through effort are all equally important components of a successful school. To this end, we attempt to keep a balance of all four of these within our school.

In Oregon, all public school curricula are tied to the Oregon State Academic Standards. These represent the 'whats' of learning over which we do not have direct control. Teaching these standards in a way that makes them accessible to students, however, is our job and dictates our success or failure. Thus, we take these very seriously and strive to always find new ways to help students master this material while also showing students that learning can be an enjoyable and satisfying experience.

Like many schools in our county, Mapleton Elementary School operates on a four-day school week. Most weeks, students attend school on Monday-Thursday. However, the schedule shifts to Tuesday-Friday on weeks with Monday holidays: Labor Day, MLK Day, President's Day, and Memorial Day.

Volunteer Information

We use our Rolling Readers program to help students become better readers. In this program, volunteers work one-on-one, reading with grade school students once a week. Help is always appreciated! For shorter term volunteer opportunities, please watch our 'upcoming events' in the calendar section or call the elementary office at 541.268.4471. Parents are also welcome to volunteer in classrooms. Please contact your student's teacher for more information regarding how you can be of assistance.
