If you are interested in learning more about School Boards there is a training available:

The Upriver Siuslaw Board of Directors Training is set for Friday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the Mapleton High School Gym. Sign up today! We are offering priority registration through March 3 for Upriver Siuslaw residents (Mapleton, Swisshome, Deadwood) or those serving on a board that is located in upriver communities. Registration for the Florence/Dunes City area organizations will be available after March 6 as space allows.

The FREE training includes three sessions, plus coffee, refreshments, and lunch. Siuslaw Vision offers stipends or reimbursements to help you attend. These can help with child or elder care, transportation, or other needs that might keep you from being able to join us. To request a stipend, please reply here. If we have enough requests, we will have child care available on site for potty-trained kids, so please let me know if you’d like this option.

Who is this for?

The training is designed for those who are currently serving on a nonprofit or special district board of directors or for those who might want to serve on a board in the future. Content will be valuable for both new and experienced board members.

What will you learn? Details are available on the registration site.

Session 1 – Effective Board Management for Meaningful Engagement
Meaningful board service involves more than just attending meetings; a truly engaged board is one whose understanding of their individual and collective roles matches their passion for and dedication to your mission.

Session 2 – Bolstering Board Recruitment & Retention
Nearly every nonprofit can benefit from having board members that are more engaged and effective– but how do we set ourselves up for success? This session will help you shift your discussions about recruiting new board members from a “who do we know” conversation toward a more strategic and ongoing board cultivation and recruitment process.

Session 3 – Engaging Your Board in Fundraising
A well-prepared and passionate board is essential to successful fundraising. This session will provide strategies for creating fundraising expectations from the get-go, increasing your board’s understanding of the organization’s revenue needs, finding ways for everyone to play a role, and building board ambassadors for your cause.
