Communicable Disease Update
Hello Mapleton students and families, I am writing to share that we had multiple confirmed cases of scabies at the MS level this week.  In response to increased reporting of itching and rashes, we invited Mapleton parent and local PeaceHealth Physician Assistant Melissa Moffett to assess students with possible symptoms.  On Thursday afternoon, she diagnosed a handful of students and has connected all families to treatment.  We have taken additional measures to disinfect equipment used  by students.  Scabies are not contagious following initial treatment.  We are hopeful that these efforts stopped any spread; however, if your student complains of itchiness and/or rash, please report and seek treatment immediately, we are happy to help connect you to resources, as needed. Please see additional information below about scabies. **_ In general, please encourage your child to wash their hands regularly and to not share personal items (especially clothes, blankets, and hats)._**Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, Sue WilsonFrom Communicable Disease Plan: ![](s3.amazonaws.com/ps-feeds-production/inline_images_1698016278654-1698016278654.png)[https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/scabies/prevent.html](www.cdc.gov/parasites/scabies/prevent.html)
