Mapleton Portrait of a Graduate

Welcome to our monthly newsletter, a vibrant reflection of the happenings and achievements within the Mapleton community. Each edition provides news, events, and updates - keeping you connected and informed about dynamic learning, community connections, and integrated supports for students and families. In addition, look out for elementary and secondary weekly Sailor Spotlights that showcase our students and staff as Dynamic Communicators, Thinkers, Innovators, and Advocates and how our students Value Themselves, Each Other, Their Learning, and This Place.

In This Issue:

3/4th Grade Attendance Celebration

Each day that 90% of 3rd & 4th graders have attended school, they have earned a game piece to fill Mr. Potato Head! The class has met their goal and will be attending a movie following Spring Break! Great job class!

A reminder: There are 35 days in Q3 = this means that you should be absent no more than 3.5 days to earn 90% attendance for Q3.
College Fair

College Fair

On Tuesday March 3rd, Mapleton hosted our 3rd annual College Fair. All 7th-12th graders attended and had the chance to visit with every Oregon State college and university.

Thank you to Kay Graham and Carrie Dean and our GearUP program for helping organize this opportunity that is usually only offered in larger schools.
3 awesome otters on a golf cart

Awesome Otters!

Congratulations to Dylan, Nevaeh, Carmela, Carter, Louie, Kimber, Estelle, Sneha, and Ira, our February Awesome Otters! These students were recognized for working hard to show us what it means to value ourselves, value each other, value our learning, and value this place. Students who are nominated for an Awesome Otter award get to choose from a range of prizes, including a ride around campus on our golf cart with Miss Carly! March Awesome Otters are currently on display in the elementary main office. Our students are amazing!

Dynamic Advocates of the Month

Congratulations to Junior Jacob Kinard and 6th grader Bobby Bender for their recognition as Dynamic Advocates of the Month.

DYNAMIC ADVOCATES use their voice to support others, standing up for what they believe in with confidence, compassion, and understanding. They practice gratitude and empathy, recognizing the importance of social norms and positive relationships within their community. Advocates are supportive and encouraging, ensuring everyone feels valued and included. They know when to take calculated risks for the greater good and are resilient in the face of obstacles, never giving up on their mission to make their school and community a better place. Dynamic Advocates are brave in their pursuit of fairness and are committed to helping others grow alongside themselves.

This next month, we will be focusing on Dynamic Communicators.

Math Curriculum Adoption Update

Mapleton Elementary teachers have been piloting the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum at all grade levels (Kinder-5th). This follows multiple teachers piloting Illustrative Mathematics the prior school year.

All teachers are interested in moving forward with a formal adoption of the Bridges curriculum based on the engaging curriculum, intentional discourse built through Number Corners, and regular practice of prior concepts and skills.

We invite families to explore the materials further and provide their feedback this month. Please be on the lookout for Parent Square posts with survey links.

Hoots Clinics

A reminder that HOOTS is hosting two clinics each week (Mon & Wed) for MS/HS students. Clinics are always free, confidential, voluntary, and available to all students. Clinic teams include a crisis worker and an EMT or RN, services are HIPAA compliant, and HOOTS can provide short term counseling, crisis intervention, basic first aid and community referrals. Youth can meet with a professionally trained crisis counselor, an EMT or RN to discuss their needs and options. The team is there to provide extra support to students on a range of topics such as: mental health, physical health, accessing resources, school life, home life, interpersonal relationships, family relationships, substance use or abuse and more. The clinic can also connect students to ongoing resources such as assistance finding long term counseling and getting them signed up for OHP.
