New opportunities and Resources
Hello Mapleton Families, I am writing to share a few great community opportunities. 1. Did you know you can now take driver’s license and permit tests without going into the DMV!!!  Our amazing Terri Johnston has figured out this new system and can proctor (or set up a proctor) these tests at Mapleton!  We had our first student pass their test this week!  If you are supporting a student or a community member to get their driver’s license and want to do so locally, please contact Terri (541-268-4322). 2.  Together with Connected Lane County, we will be hosting a Youth Support Specialist training opportunity for 16-20 year-olds (you do not need to be a current Mapleton student, but we are offering HS Health credit for this training). This forty-hour Oregon Health Authority (OHA) approved training is specifically tailored to fit the needs of youth and young adult peer support providers.  The training provides participants with a comprehensive introduction to peer work and includes a variety of support methods that center on the lived experiences of thepeer. Those who complete this training are able to register with the state of Oregon as certified Youth Support Specialists (YSS) (when 18, the training lasts for 3 years).  With the current lack of mental and behavioral support personnel, many organizations are seeking to Peer Support and Youth Support Specialists.  The class will be taught by Connected Lane County Resource Specialists Sean Wilkinson and Olivia Goodheart – they are phenomenal!**This class will take place on Fridays (dates below) from 9am to 3:30pm, with lunch and snacks provided.  Please spread the word and register here:  ****[https://forms.gle/CxFooyEBVr6s8EqP7](forms.gle/CxFooyEBVr6s8EqP7) **February 23rdMarch 1stMarch 15thMarch 22nd
